Fall is here and I'm dreaming of crisp apples, beef stews, pumpkins, and hayrides.

This Gluten Free Apple Crisp recipe is a lower-sugar, healthy alternative to traditional apple crisp recipes. This apple crisp is made with gluten free flour, gluten free oats, almond butter, and coconut sugar, while the traditional apple crisp is made with white flour, white sugar, butter, and cornstarch. This gluten-free apple crisp is a great way to satisfy your sweet tooth without guilt. It's also a great option for those with food allergies or dietary restrictions.

What's the difference between apple crumble and apple crisp? ›

Apple Crumble is synonymous with Apple Crisp in the U.K. and Australia, but in Canada and the U.S., it is a slightly different dish. Like an apple crisp, an apple crumble is a baked fruit dessert with a layer of topping. But unlike the crisp, the crumble topping rarely includes oats or nuts.

What is apple crisp topping made of? ›

Sweet, sticky, and scrumptious, apple crisp is a baked dessert with a golden brown streusel topping. Ingredients typically include cooked apples, butter, sugar, flour, oats, and spices like cinnamon and nutmeg. It may go by its other alias apple crumble. But whatever you call it, we call it delicious.

Why do you put lemon juice over the apples when making an apple crisp? ›

Many recipes for apple pie and apple cobbler will call for tossing your sliced apples in a little bit of lemon juice before putting them into your dish. Lemon juice prevents oxidation of the apples, which means that it stops the slices from turning brown by providing a barrier between the apple's flesh and the air.

Does it matter what apples you use in apple crisp? ›

Is apple brown betty the same as apple crisp? ›

Both are very similar apple desserts, but the difference mainly comes down to the crumble topping: Instead of the flour and oat mixture used in an apple crisp, an apple brown betty uses breadcrumbs for its crumbly, delicious topping.

Why is Apple Crisp not crispy? Don't forget to evenly distribute the butter with the topping. That melted butter helps crisp everything up on top for the perfect texture and flavor!

Should apple crisp be refrigerated after baking? ›

Apple Crisp is very much like apple pie in that it doesn't NEED to be refrigerated, but the shelf life will be extended if you do store it in the refrigerator. I recommend storing it on the countertop for up to two days, or up to four days in the refrigerator.

Does apple crisp need to be covered when baking? ›

Baking: Start baking the apple crisp covered with foil. This allows the apples to soften without any risk of the topping over-browning. After about 20 minutes, remove the foil and let the crisp finish cooking uncovered. Once the juices are bubbling, the topping is golden brown, and the apples are tender, it is done!

Butter- The butter gives the best flavor and texture and holds together the dry ingredients.
